On The Way

The double-lp 'On The Way' from 1977 was never released due to legal problems, but here it finally is, thirty-five years after it was recorded! As one of Holland's top jazz musicians, multi reed-player Gijs Hendriks always went his own way – too rhythmic for the 'free scene' and too freaky for the mainstream. The music by the quartet with Franco-German pianist extraordinaire Siegfried Kessler, bassist Bert van Erk, and a young Michael Baird on drums, together with guests Slide Hampton (USA) on trombone, trumpeter Sonny Grey (JAM), and legendary conga drummer Raul Burnet (CUR), still sounds fresh and happening today.
